Some big things happened around the mid 1880′s. By this time Frank Fleer had taken over Holstein’s company and around that time they took a plunge that would be a very key turning point in gum history. Fleer’s company began making chewing gum and it had to be at this point was when things began to really come together. How do make, improve, and sell chewing gum? As the new owner of a company that had began doing just that, these had to be the thoughts going through Fleers mind at the time. Sooner or later that fateful idea of bubblegum would have to pop up.
